5 And now the afflictions of the Nephites were great, and there was no way that they could deliver themselves …
14 And they did humble themselves even in the depths of humility; and they did cry mightily to God; yea, even all the day long did they cry unto their God that he would deliver them out of their afflictions.
God is our Deliverer. He wants us to work hard and do many good things of our own free will. But often, our struggles are bigger than us.
When we find ourselves unable to deliver ourselves from our situations, we must humble ourselves, often to the very dust, and call upon Him for deliverance.
And I’m more and more convinced that most of our trials are intentionally bigger than us because He wants us to always come to Him. If things are too easy we forget and think we are big enough on our own.
We never are.
