10 And that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean;
11 And that ye may teach the children of Israel all the statutes which the Lord hath spoken unto them by the hand of Moses.
A little study this morning about the tabernacle and the temple. The Lord made clear the purpose of the tabernacle in Aaron’s day and the temple in ours.
The temple is a place where we can differentiate between clean and unclean in the world. It’s a clarifier for us.
And it allows us to approach the Mercy Seat (the Savior and His Atonement), which allows us to be in the presence of God.
In Hebrews, Paul taught the Jews that the high priest in the temple would perform the sacrifice on the Day of Atonement each year to point to Christ’s Atonement. But that Christ’s Atonement only happened once for all of us so we can look to Him eternally at that Mercy Seat.
Hebrews 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
The temple helps us remember and look to Christ and His Atonement. I love that the Lord gives us so much to bring us home. So many rich layers of meaning if we look.
