Jacob 4:14–15

14 … Wherefore, because of their blindness, which blindness came by looking beyond the mark, they must needs fall … that they may stumble.

15 … for I perceive by the workings of the Spirit which is in me, that by the stumbling … they will reject the stone upon which they might build and have safe foundation.

Thinking this morning about where we put our trust. There are lots of effective tools available today for happiness and peace. The world is full of them. And our own wisdom becomes one of them.

But Jacob was anxious for us to understand that he and others worked so diligently to engrave their teachings into plates because they pointed so directly to Christ. He wanted us to see that when we put our trust, our hope, our efforts into ANYTHING other than Christ, we are missing the mark.

Worldly solutions have their place. But when we put them ahead of centering our life on Christ, we will fall short.

To me, today, centering my life on Christ takes the form of feasting daily on the words of the Book of Mormon. The closer we get to the Second Coming, the more crucial it will be that we are spending significant time each day reading and internalizing the words of this holy book. It truly contains Christ’s words and teaching and they need to be engraven into our hearts.

I challenge each of us to make DAILY study of the Book of Mormon at habit in 2020 and beyond. It will literally be a life-saving choice.
