Exodus 23:20; Isaiah 63:9

Exodus 23:20 Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.

Isaiah 63:9 In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.

In a round about way, I’m thinking this morning of feeling excluded from God’s blessings and how we claim them.

These chapters of Exodus talk about the Israelites temple experience on Mt Sinai. The Lord told them to prepare to enter His presence, but ultimately they were not able to bear His glory.

But He promised that if they would be obedient, follow Him, repent, and be clean, He would go before them, keep them in the way, and deliver them to the place He prepared.

That idea links to this verse in Isaiah that tells us how. It’s through His pity (mercy) and love. He redeems us from that state of not being ready and takes us, through His Atoning power, to the place He has prepared.

So even if we’re not worthy (cleansed and prepared) today to enter His temple or claim any of His promised blessings, there is always hope. His love and mercy are sufficient to redeem us AT ANY POINT, to prepare us for the blessings we most seek.

It’s done daily through our commitment to Him, weekly through faithfully accessing of His Atonement through the sacrament, and all our lives through our continual efforts to be more like Him.

He will go before us and redeem us.
