Daily Scripture

Ether 2:6

And it came to pass that they did travel in the wilderness, and did build barges, in which they did cross many waters, being directed continually by the hand of the Lord.

I think I sometimes skip over the fact that these barges that the Jaredites built were NOT the barges that took them over the ocean to America. In fact, they were preparatory barges to take them over a smaller sea in the Middle East. The Red Sea, maybe? I haven’t done enough reading and studying to know the answer to that. (It doesn’t matter.)

What matters is that they are a first set of barges to try their faith before the bigger test came. The Lord said, “build these barges and I will take you to safety.” They did and He did. He proved He was trustworthy.

So four years later, He said, “Build more barges for a much bigger, much longer, much scarier journey. Do it just like you did last time. I will take care of you just like I did last time.”

The Lord leads us along just like that. He tries a little faith. We see results so He tries a little more. When we are faced with the really big challenges, He says, “Look back to what I’ve led you to do in the past. I will lead you here. Do your part, have faith, and I will take care of you.”
